Professional wedding photos by Steven Bradshaw photography – Themed Wedding
June is when we celebrate our wedding anniversary and we have had a lovely time celebrating 11 years together. It only seems like yesterday we were planning the wedding! After posting a few photos over on my instagram feed I thought it would be nice to write a blog post all about our themed wedding.
the Secret garden Themed wedding
We created a Secret Garden theme for our wedding with teacups, trailing flowers, vintage umbrellas and a floral swing.
Wedding venue – suitable for a themed wedding
Holme Pierrepont Hall Country House and Gardens
I always new when I planning the wedding that I wanted a ‘themed wedding’ just like when I travel I like to visit places that a story was based on.
My idea for The Secret Garden came about when I was visiting wedding venues across Nottinghamshire. I didn’t really visit many as once I had visit Holme Pierrepont Hall – a country house and gardens in Nottinghamshire close to where I group up, I knew it was the one!
It reminded me of the story ‘The Secret Garden’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett as it has a beautiful hidden courtyard garden as well as an abundance of green space and gardens adjacent to the house. It was here where I found a swing hanging from a tree just like Mary did in the Secret Garden. This was the inspiration for the theme of our wedding!
Colour theme… Aqua, pink and cream
I really enjoyed planning the wedding however, it was not easy and definitely requires a lot of organisation! As part of our booking at Holme Pierrpont Hall we used Fiona Herbert Catering. They provided delicious food as well as overseeing the structure of the day. We got married at the church next to Holme Pierrpont Hall – St Edmunds Parish Church. We hired a red London bus to bring the guests and we also hired a cream vintage car.
To complement the Secret Garden theme we decided to display the flowers in the venue and church as though they were loose, with flowers trailing up the grand staircase, an archway of flowers hanging from the church entrance and flowers winding around the church pillars. In the beautiful gardens there was an old fashioned swing hanging from the a tree which we also wrapped with flowers in keeping with the story.
My bouquet was hand- tied with aqua blue Curiosa, Cool Water and Sweet Akito Roses with purple and pink Lisianthus. The bridesmaids had smaller versions and the flower girl had a basked of bright pink and purple sweet peas. All the flowers were supplied by Rebecca Caddell of Floral Deco in Nottingham. The Flowers played such an important part in the wedding as it really helped convey the theme.
Vintage stlye – A line made of silk taffeta
My dress along with the bridesmaids were custom designed from Angela Vickers handmade bridal design in Nottingham. I loved having the dress maid to measure and enjoyed being able to add personal touches to the dress like extra sparkle on the shrug. The dress was a vintage style A – line dress made of silk taffeta with a bodice embellished with pearl and Swarovsvki crystal. To compete the vintage look I wore a lace bolero and full length veil along with Benjamin Adams Shoes and a pearl and crystal tiara from Blossom Tiaras.
The groom wore a grey suite with a cream and aqua waistcoat. The Groom, Best Man and Ushers all wore cool water rose buttonholes with a sprig of rosemary and ivy.
The bridesmaids wore vintage style knee length silk aqua dresses from Angela Vickers. The flower girl wore a deep pink dress with a cream bow and a headress of sweet peas and a matching basked of sweet peas.
Vintage country garden
The wedding style was vintage/country garden. After the ceremony we had a vintage country garden theme, we dressed the grounds in bunting and had an afternoon tea party with vintage garden games including croquet, quoits and chess.
We handmade pastel coloured signs for the garden games. Instead of champagne and canapés we opted for homemade lemonade, fresh strawberries and sandwiches with tea served from vintage teacups. Myself and the bridesmaids had green vintage parasols.
The reception was held in the long gallery of Holme Pierrepont Hall. We designed our own table plan in keeping with The Secret Garden theme. The table plan comprised of advent calendar style doors which when opened displayed the guests seating arrangements handwritten in calligraphy. The table centres were silver candelabras with trailing ivy, pink roses and pink Lisianthus. The tables were also decorated with vintage style fans, confetti and personalised seed packet favours along with little buckets. Vintage chairs were hired and adorned with pastel butterflies.
The wedding cake
The wedding cake was a three tier pink – iced fruitcake from Sweet Art World. To fit in with the theme the pink wedding cake was decorated with trailing flowers.
The guests travelled to the ceremony in an eye catching London Red Bus. We hired a vintage car for our wedding transport.
Instead of a traditional guest book we had a polaroid camera and a collection of fancy dress hats so that guests could take photos of themselves and leave memorable messages. We also hired a videographer to film the day which gave us a wonderful record of the day which we watched after returning from our magical honeymoon in sun – drenched Florida.
The beautiful wedding photos were captured but the amazingly talented Steven Bradshaw photography. Steven was fantastic on the day and really captured the theme beautifully. The wedding photos still look magical 11 years later which really highlights just how talented he is! If you are looking for a photographer in the East Midlands area click here for more information!
